Description

A position is available in the newly established TSL+ group to identify novel resistance genes to wheat stem rust. The mission of TSL+ is to apply state-of-the-art techniques and knowledge of plant/pathogen interactions to important crop disease problems.

The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL) is a world leader in plant and microbial science that is dedicated to making fundamental discoveries in the science of plant-microbe interactions. TSL is evolving its scientific mission not only to continue providing fundamental biological insights into plant-pathogen interactions, but also to deliver novel, genomics-based solutions which will significantly reduce losses from major crop diseases, especially in developing countries.

The successful candidate will have excellent molecular biology skills, an interest in plant disease resistance, strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work as a productive contributor to a collaborative, cross-functional team, and a desire to see his/her research reach practical application. Salary will be within the UEA Research and Analogous staff Grade 1A scale at between £29,704 and £35,469 pa; the appointment level will reflect qualifications, skills, knowledge and achievements. The position is available for two years in the first instance from 1 October 2009.
