Description
FOUR POST DOCTORAL POSITIONS OPEN
The research at Neuronal Survival Unit, Lund University, Sweden isfocused on pathogenetic mechanisms and pharmacological treatment in celland animal models of Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases. We alsostudy cell replacement therapy with stem cells in attempts to repairbrains in animal models of Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases. Thegroup’s mission is to understand neurodegenerative diseases and developnew therapies that are of benefit to patients and their caregivers.
1. Neuronal dysfunction
The post doctoral project will be focused on studying mechanisms ofcholinergic dysfunction in Huntington s disease. The project aims toboost the cholinergic function as a therapeutic approach to the disease.
The applicant should have a relevant background in neuroscience andneurodegenerative disease, preferably with an emphasis on small animalhandling and cell culture. Experience in live cell imaging is a plus.
The start date should be as soon as possible. The duration is one yearwith possibility of extension.
2. Axonal degeneration
This position is a part of a Nordic Center of Excellence –Neurodegeneration(http://www.nesu.mphy.lu.se/ncoe_neurodegeneration/index_ncoe.html). Thepost doctoral project will focus on studying mechanisms of neuronaldysfunction, especially axonal degeneration and impaired axonaltransport, rather than cell death in Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases.
The applicant should have a relevant background in neuroscience andneurodegenerative disease, preferably with an emphasis on small animalhandling and cell culture. The applicant should have experience of livecell imaging.
The start date should be as soon as possible. The duration is two years.
3. Neuroprotection
This position is a part of a Nordic Center of Excellence –Neurodegeneration (see weblink above).
The post doctoral project will focus on studying the neuroprotectiveeffects exerted by N-terminal fragments of mutant huntington so as toprotect against neurological diseases. The applicant should have arelevant background in neuroscience and neurodegenerative disease, preferably with an emphasis on cell culture and protein chemistry.
The start date should be as soon as possible. The duration is two years.
4. Neural transplantation
This position is part of a research collaboration with centres in the UKand Canada.
The focus of the project is on embryonic brain tissue handlingtechniques and transplantation of human dopamine neurons in preparationfor clinical trials in Parkinson’s disease.
The applicant should have a relevant background in neuroscience, with anemphasis on microdissection, cell culture, small animal stereotaxicsurgery and immunohistochemistry.
Requirements:
All applicants should also be fluent in spoken and written English.Three references required.
