A world of opportunities
Mathematical Modeller/Postdoctoral Research Associate
Department of Veterinary Medicine
Limit of tenure: 24 months
The Cambridge Infectious Disease Consortium (CIDC:http://www.vet.cam.ac.uk/cidc) is a collaborative venture, involvingseveral Cambridge University departments and other research institutes.A major objective of the CIDC is to provide a world-class researchenvironment for the training of veterinarians as infectious diseasespecialists and to develop research programmes in infectious diseasedynamics in collaboration with other CIDC scientists.
Great Britain has experienced a dramatic increase in bovine Tuberculosis(bTB) since the late 1980’s, and the Veterinary authorities are lookingfor ways to improve existing testing and control policies. CIDC, fundedby the Veterinary Laboratory Agencies (VLA), has been asked to providescientific expertise on the issue of “problem herds”, i.e. herds withpersistent or recurrent positive tests for bovine Tuberculosis.
You will join a team of mathematical modellers and epidemiologists inthe CIDC Disease Dynamics Unit based at the Department of VeterinaryMedicine, to develop a modelling framework at the within-herd level andto investigate the effects of various sources of infection, animalmovement and testing policies. The results will be used to informgovernment policy.
You should hold a PhD in Mathematics, Physics or Ecology and have strongexperience in developing mathematical models for infectious diseasesdynamics. Additional background on bovine tuberculosis or otherveterinary diseases would be an advantage but is not essential.
