Center of Molecular Biomedicine (CBM), AREA Science Park, Trieste, Italy
LANADA is a recently formed laboratory within CBM that focuses onnanotechnology applications to single cell biology and molecularmedicine. The laboratory operates with both its own full time researchstaff and affiliated staff from other local institutions. The facilitiesare excellent and the available instrumentation is at state of the art.Trieste is on the northern east side of Italy, has by far the largestscientist population in the country and is one of the most livablecities in the peninsula.
The positions offer the possibility for multidisciplinary experimentalwork at the intersection between basic research and application. Severalprojects are available that range from the characterization of polymericnanostructures as drug delivery systems and for cell nano- andmicroencapsulation. One new research line requires a strong backgroundin acoustics. The major techniques available in the lab are confocalmicroscopy, Two-photon excitation fluorescence, zetasizer, and HPLC.Experience in cell culture as well as in animal experiments would be preferred.
Successful applicants will have received a Ph.D. or M.D. no longer thanthree years prior to their application and will have a strong backgroundin their discipline. Experience and skills in interdisciplinary workwould be preferred but not essential. Essential are proven skillstowards experimental work. Fluency in written and spoken English isrecommended. Knowledge of the Italian language is not essential. Theposition is open immediately and offers a contract for 18 months withthe possibility of extension of one more year subject to theavailability of funds.
